Gas, electric or heat pump: choosing a hot water system

When a hot water system fails, it is tempting to just replace it with whatever is already there. Most of the time that is the right call, but it is worth a quick think first because the running costs can be very different.

Gas systems heat water quickly and work well for larger households, especially if you already have gas connected for cooking or heating.

Electric systems are the simplest to install and are a solid option if gas is not connected to your property.

Heat pump systems cost more up front but use a lot less energy to run, since they pull heat from the air rather than generating it directly. They suit homes looking to cut running costs over the life of the unit.

The right choice comes down to your household size, how your home is set up, and what you are trying to get out of the system, whether that is the lowest upfront cost or the lowest running cost over time.

We will walk you through the options for your home before anything gets booked in, not after.
